The Joshua David Gardner Memorial Scholarship Endowment is pleased to announce Kristina Echols as its 2018 scholarship recipient.
Kristina Echols is pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and Environmental Science at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She’s a Spelman College Social Justice Program Fellow and an Andrew Goodman Foundation Ambassador. Kristina’s participated in study abroad and international learning experiences in Barcelona, Spain and Havana, Cuba.
Kristina is also Spelman College Bonner Scholar. The Bonner Scholars Program provides a service-learning scholarship for students who have high financial need and a commitment to service. This summer. Kristina is working as a Community Relations Mercedes Benz STAR Intern and as a Community Affairs Game Day Intern for the Atlanta Braves.
She’s an active participant in the Spelman College Ethel Waddel Githii Honors Program. She was recently initiated in the Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honors Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
Kristina teaches dance at an Atlanta elementary school and volunteers with the Greening Youth Foundation as an environmental educator. Her community engagement and civic service volunteerism and activism is extensive, including working for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Trees Atlanta and the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance.
Kristina holds certificates of Nonprofit Organization Management and Project Management from the Georgia Center for Nonprofits. Upon her graduation from Spelman College, Kristina plans to enter the nonprofit management profession.
